Well once again the end of the year festive season here in lovely Malaysia has just kicked off..starting with Deepavali or also known as Diwali....the Festival of Lights!
Since it is the eve of Deepavali, I would like to dedicate this special piece to the festive season.
Deepavali is definitely in the swing around Malaysia, as you can see from the colourful lights around the country below:
What is a festive celebration without preparations....yup...that includes shopping!! Walking around Little India here, it's endless. But for sure you will get everything you need for the celebrations....and sometimes with a good bargain as well.
Growing up I didn't really understand the true meaning of Deepavali apart from knowing that it is a public holiday and all my Hindu friends celebrated it. As well as a great time to visit my Hindu friends at their homes and chilling out with them while enjoying the varieties of glorious home cooked Indian cuisine and cookies.
But having just read from the link below, now I fully understand the history and how Deepavali came about. So do have a read...interesting indeed!
But of course my favourite is always the fashion part of it all. Doing this piece was a bit of a challenge as I couldn't get enough of all the beautiful colours of the Indian traditional outfits. The colours alone can just blow me away and what more the designs of the clothes...simply devine!
With the rise of the Bollywood stars such as Aishwarya Rai-Bachan, Deepak Chopra, Shah Rukh Khan and many more, Bollywood has taken Hollywood by storm.
Thanks to them, the Indian fashion such as Sarees, Punjabi Suits and Lehenga have been made popular around the world today.
Many Hollywood celebrities such as Oprah, Madonna, Angelina Jolie and Ashley Judd have also dawned the Indian clothing to perfection, Below are some of them:
Even JLo and Blake Lively had worn Saree inspired gowns for the red carpet.
British model and actress carried a number of eye catching sarees well when she was married to Indian businessman Arun Nayar.
The late Princess Diana also was a fan of Bollywood fashion. She wore a number of Punjabi suits to many occasions, many of which was during her visits to Pakistan.
A very creative piece - Princess Mary of Denmark wore a saree material evening gown to an evening function during her early years as Crown Princess of Denmark
Even the music stars took a liking to Bollywood fashion.
Not forgetting even fashion Queen Victoria Beckham dawned the saree for Vogue magazine. As well as fashion model Gisele Bundchen posed in a saree for one of her fashion shoots.
