It has been quite a while since my last posting. All I can say is life has been a bit of a roller coaster for me in the past few months. But being a little more settled now, here is a throwback piece that I'd like everyone to read & appreciate the art of fashion...
Met Gala 2016 was quite unique this time round. It was really interesting to see how fashion was displayed with 'Manus x Machina : Fashion in a Age of Technolgy' Theme. The variety of creativity was displayed to the maximum all over the red carpet.
Personally I found it very interesting indeed to be able to see and value the works of art in fashion. Though many stars came out with a lot of blink blink numbers, there were a few who played it safe with their choice of fashion. Of course there were also those who did not adhere to the theme of gala, but yet we cannot deny fashion is subjective.
The beautiful Nina Dobrev looked every inch a princess at Met Gala in her fairytale like dress. The former Vampire Diaries star looked absolutely stunning in her full length flowing skirt gown made of beige tulle. The scoop-neck, capped sleeve bodice of her gown hugged her curves perfectly as it was tightly fitted from her chest all the way down to her hips, showing off her tiny waist. It was covered in delicate, pastel floral embellishments that must have taken so much time to individually be sewn on. The pretty petals cascaded down her full skirt to about the knee before they ran out just before the hemline.
It was a total standout even though it was said that it went against the Gala’s theme, “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.” Most celebs took that to the extreme, either in shiny silver or chrome-like gowns, many with futuristic looks that included some of the shortest hemlines we’ve seen at the event in years. But Nina’s dress was old fashioned yet elegant, it really stood out! Say whatever you want, but to me, her dress DID adhere to the night's theme!!
51 year old Sarah Jessica Parker is one of the few stars that is never afraid to take fashion risks and she's damn good at it! Once again she proved everyone wrong by dancing to the beat of her own drum. Love it or hate it, she reminded the world once again that she is a fashion force to be reckoned with!
This year she didn’t back down, and wore something that got even more heads turning — a pants suit. You have to respect a woman who pushes the envelope when it comes to fashion. She does it every single year. And this year was no exemption.
A few blast from the past of Sarah's fashion statement in the Met Ball :
Instead of following the theme of the night and dressing in a typical flowing gown that most attendee’s opted for, Sarah went for a more subtle all white ensemble — and it wasn’t a dress! The all white capri pant suit was very much unique I would say, but sadly, left much to be desired. I had very high expectations of Sarah, given the benefit that she is a major fashion icon. Although Sarah did have her reasons behind the strange get-up, apparently her outfit was inspired by the hit musical Hamilton. But somehow to me other than her shoes, there was no 'Umph' in her chosen outfit.
This year's Met Gala was also a pretty big surprise...real-life Royalty!
Queen Rania looking every inch a Queen in a feathered monochrome Valentino dress. The 45-year-old ever glamorous Middle Eastern Queen, who is no stranger to style, opted to keep the colour of her dress simple. The white feathers didn't take away from the black elegance at the bottom of the gown.
Monaco's style princess, Charlotte Casiraghi also made a colourful impact at the 2016 Met Gala in New York when she stepped out in a rainbow tiered creation by Gucci. Its no surprise that the Monaco royal opted to wear Gucci to fashion's biggest night being that she is the face of the brand's cosmetics collection. Charlotte has appeared in numerous campaigns for the Italian designer since 2014.
Meanwhile, Princess Olympia of Greece attended the Balmain and Olivier Rousteing after the Met Gala Celebration as she doesn't appear to have been invited to the actual Gala. The 19 year old princess donned a patterned mini-dress from the French fashion house to the designer Olivier Rousteing's star-studded Met Gala after party.
The Royal, took to Instagram on Monday to share a photo of herself modeling the strapless cream dress, which featured a deep v-shaped cutout in the center of her chest.
More of the Gala's Red Carpet fashion...
Claire Danes's magnificent Zac Posen dress for the 2016 Met Gala is both breathtaking and theme appropriate...and it is my most favourite! The Homeland star sported the designer's custom baby blue gown, which is very Cinderellalike vibes, and needed the help of both Posen and her husband Hugh Dancy while going up the museum's famous grand steps. The gorgeous glow-in-the-dark dress is lined with fiber optics all throughout, highlighting the delicate detailing from the corset to the full skirt and train.
It was revealed to E! News that she chose to wear Posen's creation to the annual fashion affair because she and the New York-based designer were neighbours in high school and have been long time friends.
Check out Amy Schumer in her stunning Alexander Wang gown, she looked so hot, even the designer himself wanted to accompany her on the red carpet! Decked in head-to-toe ruby red, Amy’s style was on fire. Displaying her best assets, the dress had a daring thigh-high split and on-trend shoulder detail – We love!
From Alexander Wang to H&M, yes Jennifer Hudson rocked custom H&M on the red carpet in a white mermaid style gown with a 4ft train! Who said fashion can’t be affordable? The mermaid silhouette is perfect for accentuating her gorgeous curves and showing what a great shape she has.
Funny girl Mindy Kaling was also ravishing in white at the MET. Showing petite women that they can wear maxis too, the high waistline of Mindy’s gown gives the illusion of longer legs whilst the iridescent fabric adds a little sparkle.
We love seeing curvier women on the red carpet, especially when they’re as stylish as this lot! Who was your best-dressed – Amy, Jennifer or Mindy?
